Camp Esteem
Each summer, we conduct a four-day residential camp for 25-30 boys. The camp has been previously held at the Moton Center at Capahosic in Gloucester, Virginia. The 2005 camp was held at the Alexandria Police Youth Camp in Kilmarnock, Virginia. The boys engage in several activities that enhance their mental, emotional, and physical development. These include educational, conflict resolution, self-esteem, language development, leadership, and team-building activities
along with recreational activities such as swimming, fishing, and sporting activities. The mentees are required to set up the tent under which many of the activities are held, and must also demonstrate that they have properly handled their personal responsibilities. Members of The 100 and others, such as former scholarship recipients, serve as workshop leaders and presenters.

African American History Challenge
Each year at The National Convention of the 100 Black Men of America, Inc., an African American History Challenge is held. High school students across the United States compete at the local level for an opportunity to represent themselves and the sponsoring chapter at the national competition. Locally, high schools are invited to select a two-person team to participate in the challenge. A book on African-American History is provided as a study guide for the students. The teams from articipating schools come together for the competition in the spring to determine which team will represent the Virginia Peninsula Chapter at the national convention. Our chapter has competed for seven consecutive years. The Challenge provides a wonderful opportunity for students to engage in teamwork, reading comprehension, thinking on the abstract
level, and demonstrating the usage of proper speaking skills.

Effective Black Parenting
The Virginia Peninsula Chapter has been a co-sponsor of the Center for the Improvement of Child Caring (CICC)'s Effective Black Parenting program. This nationally acclaimed program focuses on building and improving parenting skills. Locally, it serves the parents of the students in our mentoring program and involves group sessions wherein parents discuss issues and experiences of concern regarding their children. Trainers provide information and guidance relative to a wide array of topics designed to teach parents and others how to raise African-American children to become healthy, proud, and productive citizens of our society. The program places emphasis on family communication, African-American identity, family values, child growth and development, and fostering positive self-esteem.
Scholarship Awards
Our organization values the importance of a college education. Each year we provide several high school students with scholarships. The scholarship awards are based on academic standing, need, character, and career goals. We are pleased to share with the community that our local chapter has invested over $100,000 in scholarship awards. Over forty students have received scholarships from our chapter. Our program provides funds during the student's entire undergraduate
career, subject to receipt of a transcript indicating satisfactory academic progress. Twelve of our students have also been named National Office Scholarship Recipients. In addition, the Virginia Peninsula Chapter of the 100 Black Men of America, Inc. is pleased and proud to acknowledge that 18 of our scholarship recipients have graduated from college. In addition to scholarships for students, we acknowledge the efforts of local citizens with our Role Model Awards.

Men's Health Screening Clinic
In the fall of each year The Virginia Peninsula Chapter of The 100 Black Men of America, Inc. and Peninsula Institute for Community Health conducts an Annual Men's Health Screening Clinic under the supervision of Dr. Anthony Sibley, one of the founders of our local chapter. This comprehensive medical evaluation is open to all male members of the general public and is provided free of charge. We have a carefully crafted program to provide our clients with maximum medical benefit and minimal discomfort in a relatively short period of time. Screening is provided for prostate enlargement, diabetes, hypertension, erectile dysfunction, and rectal bleeding. Educational brochures and videos are provided as well as nutritionally sound refreshments. A urologist, other medical doctors and medical professionals are present for additional consultation.
Project E.A.S.T. (Enriching A Student's Time)
During the school year, members of The 100 visit schools and read to preschool, primary, and elementary students. In addition to reading books, members share a positive self-esteem statement, encourage children to attend school daily, and
discuss their careers. Members of our chapter have also spoken to guidance counselors self-esteem groups and CHROME clubs on the elementary, middle, and high school level. The 100 have also participated with VISIONPOINT of Hampton
and encouraged teens and young adults to pursue careers, and overcome life's challenges.
